Book Charges

Students with accounts in good standing and/or students expecting a credit balance refund may request a set amount to be available for purchasing textbooks, supplies, and other misc. items at the SBU Book Store. These purchases will then be charged to the student's tuition account, eliminating the necessity of cash in hand.

How it works:

  1. Request set amount by semester (i.e. $400 for Fall semester) If approved, then....
  2. Select items at Book Store, when checking out inform cashier of Book Charge.
  3. Only amount of purchase(s) will be posted to your tuition account. (i.e. if $400 book charge, but spend only $250, then only the $250 will be posted. Remaining amount does not get billed.)
  4. Book Charge is good 2 weeks prior through 1 weeks into each semester.

To request a Book Charge, please send your request via E-mail to the Credit & Collections Department. Athletes under contract should E-mail the Financial Aid Department. Voc Rehab students should email the Accounting Department. College of Nursing/Springfield students e-mail Springfield@sbuniv.edu.

SBU Bookstore is proud to offer you the most competitive shipping rates. All of our shipments are professionally packed to ensure the safety of your items in route.

On average, your order will be received in 7 - 10 working days. During August or December, delivery time may take longer.

General Merchandise Return Policy

We are confident that you will enjoy our products. So confident that if you are not completely satisfied, you may return items purchased within 5 working days from the day you received your order and receive a full refund. All items must be returned in the original condition. If the return is due to our error, shipping charges will be refunded.

  • CDs and DVDs must be unopened, still in the shrink-wrap or original protective packaging.

Packing list and receipt must be included with each return. Returns missing this information can not be credited. If the return is due to our error all shipping charges will be refunded to the original credit card or account used for payment.

Textbook Return Policy

  • Be sure you need the book before you buy it.
  • You may return a book for a full refund if you have the cash register receipt, in some cases your class schedule, and:
    • You bought the wrong book and you wish to trade it for the correct book.
    • You are dropping a class and you have the drop/add documentation in hand.
    • You are dropping out of school and have documentation in hand.
    • The instructor has notified the bookstore of a textbook change and it is no longer needed.
    • There is a defect in the book.
  • We will refund in like currency, i.e. if you purchased the book with a credit card, we will credit the account. If the book was paid for in cash or check, we will refund in cash. If the book was charged to your financial aid account, your financial account will be credited. In some cases, if the refund is large, we will need to have a check sent from accounting.
  • We do not refund on recommended or optional textbooks.
  • Books must be returned in their original condition for a full refund. A reduction in amount refunded will occur if the book has been marked in, i.e. name written in it, highlighting, etc.
  • You may not return a book if you obtained another copy elsewhere.
  • New books must include all software with unopened packages as well as all intact Web codes, still in shrink wrapping or original protective packaging.
  • Used books must not include any additional highlighting, writing, drawings, etc.

Return Policy Instructions

Include the packing slip and receipt (receipt can be reprinted on the order history page) with your return. Repackage your item(s) in the original packaging or in an appropriate cardboard box. Using packing material (e.g. Styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap, etc) around your item(s), pack and tape your package securely. Select a carrier that offers you the option to insure and track your package. FedEx and USPS both offer this option. Insuring and tracking your package protects you as the shipper and helps ensure your shipment goes to the correct destination in the same condition it was as when you sent it. Write down your tracking number and keep it until SBU Bookstore has refunded your money. Ship your return to the following address:

Arrange for a carrier to pick up your package or drop it off with the carrier. Shipping is the responsibility of the customer and is not refundable, unless due to our error. No credit is given for lost or damaged packages in route to SBU Bookstore. Please insure and track your package. Returns to SBU Bookstore will be refunded to the original credit card or account used for payment unless a different payment option was selected. A refund will be posted to your credit card or account once your return is received and processed. Processing times for returns vary, and may take up to 30 days from the day the return is received for a credit to be transmitted to your credit card or account. It normally takes 2-10 business days for financial institutions to process the transmitted credit request.
